Back in the saddle

Well, it's been an interesting 6 months here on Planet Triggol.  I was just getting into it all - sketches, ideas, works in progress and then...........bang! The disc in my back slips again together with the added complication of being pregnant and unable to take painkillers of any note.  The solution - A single bed in the living room, a zimmer with wheels on the front for the 15m trip to the toilet (average speed of 0 miles an hour - average time to do distance - 5 mins!) and basically lying flat on my back for 6 weeks.  I wouldn't recommend it.
Anyway, pleased to say that all is well with the pregnancy and painting is well and truly back on the agenda.
I'm working towards an exhibition in December in Clevedon at the Toll House.  I have to plan it like a military operation due to the loss of painting time and inspiration!
Painting wise, not a lot is new today.  The web site will eventually be live I would say before the end of August - just a few last minute tweaks - it will be www.naomitriggol.com
I thought I would just add a few of the images of prints that are the most popular.  Two of these originals are batiks, painted in wax with the old knitting needle!  One is oil on paper.
Watch out for the Trig-etches of Bristol, Clevedon and Bath.

Water batiks trio all framed

These 3 works form the first finished part of 12 planned batiks focussed on the elements.  Work starts on the next trilogy this month - fire it is!  The work is created on silk using wax resist and silk dyes.  I put the wax on with a knitting needle - well, I can't knit, so I might as well use it for something!

This is Bath.  I spent many a happy day drifting round this fabulous city finding plenty of inspiration.
'The water brought the people and the people sang' - must be the longest title that I have ever given to a painting.  It's the history element you see, and there is plenty of history in Bath.
If you look closely you will see Pultney Bridge, Bath Abbey, The Pump Rooms and the head of one of the distinctive lions which graces Bath in the summer.
This piece made it to the Bath Prize exhibition last year.

'Bristol Fashion' seems an appropriate title for this composite piece which shows the familiar Hotwells skyline together with the masts and rigging of the SS Great Britain.
There is even a reference to the slave trade in the form of chains.
Again, a historical reference has helped to shape this work.
All of these batiks have distinctive 'ghostly' figures in them.  (Bit of a trade mark really).
Anyway, prints of this one seem to be very popular - people say it's the Hotwells bit which initially draws the eye.

The last one of the water trilogy!  It's Clevedon Pier - again a composite with details of the pagoda roof with weather vane and the metal span.
I've used the 'ghostly figures' to give a feeling of the length of the pier, a real sense of perspective.
Prints of this one will go into the exhibition in December which is at the Toll House at Clevedon Pier.
Must get on with the others now or I'll never be ready for December!!!!

Bristol Commissions finally finished!

After endless hours of very enjoyable painting.  The Commissions went up last week.  Here is my favourite one in all its glory.  I called it 'Guarding Clifton's smile.'  Its a big work in acrylic - I like the prints too, much smaller than the original, but definately successful.  I'm only doing 100 of the prints this time.

The other pictures make me smile too.

Here is 'As the crow flies' and Edward's Place (Vic Rooms - Bristol).

The one with the SS GB and Hotwells behind nearly did my head in!  It's a very unusual perspective to say the least.

Ah!  The final piece!  My Grandfather was responsible for putting many of the panes in the windows of this building.  Lovely!
Anyway, there's now 100 prints of each ready to grace the walls of those who love Bristol's buildings.

What shall I do next?  Back to the Batiks I think.  Perhaps I'll do the next series of 3 - 'Fire', to go with the series of 3 on water.  Here are two of them (prints available) 'The water brought the people" was the first one - based on Bath and then came 'Bristol Fashion'.  The third one was finished last week.  It's called 'Promenade' and depicts Clevedon Pier.  All of the above slightly abstract!

Looking forward to the launch of my website - VERY SOON!  Plus of course my next exhibition in May - must call Tiffin on the Seafront at Clevedon to get the date sorted!
